Statistics Need to be Turned into Easy Basic Math - EBM™

People do not understand statistics. Statistics need to be turned into Easy Basic Math (EBM™). Most statistics are actually easy basic mathematics. The problem is that people cannot see the easy parts of the process in a way that they can understand. Now that we have the Internet, new statistical methods, and new visualization techniques there are ways that you can click on a statistic and follow it backwards while visualizing the mathematics in a way that everyone can understand. These visualization processes need to be used on statistics from chemistry, physics, business, and all the sciences. Summary statistics are especially important to show with visualization techniques.

Educational Believable Mathematics EBM™

Mathematics can be difficult. Sometimes they are not educational. Sometimes they are not believable. However, mathematics should be educational and believable.

We should have educational and believable mathematics EBM™.

The point of mathematics us to better understand the world we live in. Mathematics is first and foremost the study of numbers.

We need EBM™ numbers. When any body of literature produces a number whether it be chemistry, biology, business, physics, or whatever we need to have educational believable mathematics behind that number. It needs to be an EBM™ number as opposed to a pure guess. Too often numbers are not educational and they are not believable.

Today we have the perfect storm of technology, visualization tools, the Internet, and mathematics so that we can show a number, and visually show the trail back to where it comes from. We can make that number educational and believable. We can visualize backwards to understand the number, and we can visualize forward to see how the number was determined.

STAR™ Blocks

STAR™ Blocks are a new healthcare information technology, educational device, to help organize the medical literature. The overall goal is to quantify the science of medicine behind medical treatments.

STAR™ may be considered to stand for "STatistic and a Reference." It is easy to say and easy to remember, even without the potential acronym. We also have other forms in consideration such as:

and so forth. They are good for the grammar purists and we are using them as well, but why deal with the confusion on our patient interface?

Everyone knows how to spell "star." STAR™ is convenient and easy whether we are referring to a
STAR™ block, STAR™ database, or a STAR™ graphic.
